Matisse Ships Matisse 5.0 Database for Object Developers SAN FRANCISCO, CA - October 29, 2001-Matisse™ Information Corp. today announced the immediate availability of Matisse 5.0, database software for object developers who want to rapidly develop and deploy object applications and Web services with a lower total cost of ownership and 24x365 reliability. Deployed for over a decade in Europe running mission critical operations, the new Matisse 5.0 version is the first database ever to combine native object support with server-based SQL. "Matisse is a great fit for Web services, network infrastructure and other high performance, scalable applications," said Didier Cabannes, Matisse's president and CEO. "Customers are telling us that with its support for native objects and key standards like SQL, XML and J2EE, proven technology and low administrative requirements, Matisse is their database of choice." Matisse 5.0 has been optimized for Web services and network applications including Internet infrastructure, wireless, telecommunications, broadband and industrial control. Matisse was designed to help developers create applications and services faster, cheaper and more effectively and allow IT managers to reduce deployment and administration costs. "We chose Matisse for our next generation, distributed IP management services solution because it's the only database that met all of our requirements," said David Hecht, software development manager, Threshold Networks. "It's the only database that's reliable and scalable enough to support true carrier-class applications. Plus, Matisse allowed us to leverage our existing SQL assets and expertise, which was critical to meeting our time to market objectives." Applications and services that include Matisse can use a single object model, which reduces complexity and increases performance by eliminating the need for object-relational (O/R) mapping, O/R mapping is required by all object relational and relational databases used today. Matisse supports gradual migration, which reduces development time and leverages existing investments in SQL for developers who want to move existing applications to a pure object model. Matisse is deployed worldwide. "First generation object databases were too early to market for wide-scale adoption, did not always perform to meet the demands of enterprise-class applications, and lacked SQL support," said Evan Quinn, chief analyst, Hurwitz Group. "Matisse 5.0 is a SQL compliant object database, performs optimally as application use grows, and enables developers to solve many of the issues related to using non-object databases in object-oriented solutions." A free developer version of Matisse 5.0 is available for download. Specific advantages of Matisse include:
Matisse 5.0 supports the popular server platforms Sun Solaris, Linux, Windows NT/2000, and FreeBSD; J2EE and .NET frameworks; SQL, UDDI and XML standards; and a broad range of language bindings including Java, C++, C, Python, Perl, PHP, Smalltalk, VisualBasic, Delphi and Eiffel. Most language bindings are offered as open source software. For more information about Matisse 5.0 or to download the free developer version, visit www.Matisse.com.
